In August 2010, I resigned from my office job to set up mSimps, a fashion accessory company with a capital of GHS200 (USD100). mSimps manufactures hand-made accessories such as handbags, dress and hair brooches, laptop bags, shoes and other accessories with African print.
The goal of mSimps is to produce quality hand-made Made-In-Ghana products with African prints. We also aim to make our customers proud to wear African outfits, which are a work of creativity, innovation and product excellence.
Since setting up mSimps, our products have been introduced to clients on local and international platforms through our social media platforms, website and through recommendations. mSimps currently has agents in South Africa, USA and Canada who stock and sell on our behalf.
I was one of the 10 finalists in the Joy Fm My Business 2011. In 2012 I partook in the Enablis / UT BANK Business LaunchPad competition which I was 2nd runner up. The participation allowed me to receive support from Enablis Ghana through training programmes and recommendations which eventually took me to Nigeria to introduce my products to the larger market there.
In June 2013, mSimps partook in the Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX 2013) and Africa’s Big 7 (AB7) events. These events offer the most extensive range of international business opportunities in Africa. That same year, mSimps won 2 awards; Best Hand bag and Purse product of the Year at the Ghana Made Product Awards and Accessory brand of the Year Award at the Glitz Africa Fashion Week.
mSimps has largely garnered support via local and international media publicity. At height, we benefitted from a feature on the BBC World News channel. This opportunity enhanced our global profile, helped us build a larger social media presence and attracted customers from the diaspora.
The ultimate goal of mSimps is to be recognised in Africa and beyond in the next 10 years whilst projecting Ghana and Africa fashion on the global map and establish a fashion and entrepreneurial training facility to educate and equip the youth with skills especially those from the deprived areas.
